A R M A N D  M O R I N  +  E R N E S T O  S A R T O R I With Claudia de Forêt (Curator) and Claudia Mesch (Professor, ASU)     Yuma Historic Theater 254 S. Main St. Yuma, AZ 85364 March 5, 2016 10:00-12:00      Join us Saturday, March 5th for a lively panel discussion with the French/Italian artist team of Armand Morin and Ernesto Sartori. They will present aspects of their individual practice, in addition to their proposal for a collaborative artwork to be activated within the city of Yuma, Arizona. Like many other European artists who have examined location, geography, science fiction and landscape before, Morin and Sartori will initiate a dialogue with people and institutions within and outside Yuma. The proposal will create a marker in a region rife with cultural significance and proximity to the Mexican-American border and Tribal lands.     Envisioned as a multi-phased project, this public discussion will mark the first phase of the Morin/Sartori artwork and consider its significance. Specifically, we will consider re-imagining place and examining the boundaries of fiction and reality as set forth by Morin and Sartori in their collaboration and by those European Surrealists who conjured exotic portrayals of the American Southwest before them, during World War II.  The project connects the international art scene with the local and statewide context. The discussion will be led by curator Claudia de Forêt along with ASU art history professor and curator Claudia Mesch.
